I am beyond honored to share that I will be exhibiting a new sculptural piece at the upcoming Atlanta Art Fair, October 3-6 as part of “genteel/gentle” a curated exhibition by the remarkable Lauren Jackson Harris. The exhibition also features works by Shanequa Gay, Crystal Kim, Horace Imhotep, Crystal Jin Kim, and Kyle Ford. To have work alongside these brilliant folks is no small thing-I am so grateful to Lauren for this opportunity and for her tireless work as guest curator of the entire Atlanta Art Fair alongside Karen Comer Lowe.
A little about this work: “Glad Rags” is a riff on and then departure from the commissioned “Ribbons” series I have been doing for years in a more rigid plastered canvas and layers and layers of paint. This piece began with experiments in yards and yards of raw, cotton canvas and pigment dyes. The flows of pigment are somewhat uncontrollable and unpredictable, which created interesting moments and textures to work with. The canvas was torn apart and hand formed into the repetitive, sculptural forms which at massive scale in this raw, unfinished format gives them an organic feel, which when trailing from above has an almost like vegetative, kudzu feel.
