I grew up in a family of artists and traditional craftspeople-woodworking, broom making, and all types of needlework and sewing all played a huge part in my childhood and laid the foundations of my creative practice. I fell in love with fiber arts and textiles in college and played with methods of working traditional textile processes into contemporary, large scale sculptural works which still speak to the work I’m doing today.
I find inspiration everywhere-our beautiful city, the garden and woods behind our home, fashion, food, interior design, travels, podcasts, magazines, and of course the wide world of social media. I was an OG design blog junkie and image hoarder-and nowadays have folders and folders of color palette and design inspiration saved in Instagram and Pinterest.
My sketchbooks are catchalls-capturing everything from client meeting notes, mundane to-do lists, to material swatches, sketches and doodles that I reference again and again in future works. I reserve a solo studio day each week to play and test new ideas and methods-continually fueling fresh, new bodies of work.
I love working within the larger context of the interior design and fine art communities. So much of what I do comes from the beautiful, collaborative partnerships with my clients and with other art and design peeps. Please keep an eye on my Instagram and blog for more behind the scenes and peeks at what’s inspiring and happening in the studio.
My work is rooted in process and an ever evolving exploration of pattern, form, and materials.
Our clients are typically interior designers, architecture firms, art consultants, galleries, and private collectors. We love the collaborative creative process and strive to make working with Ink + Indigo easy, inspiring, and fun. Whether you are interested in purchasing existing studio works, commissioning based on previous works, or designing something new just for you-we would love to talk and hear more about your project. Please reach out!
From initial client inquiry we work to gather all project details and design vision. This can include dimensions of the area, the wall surface, the viewpoint, the budget, and the overall design scheme. We generally start with a review of the client's architectural drawings including floorplans and elevations-helping us to get a feel for the location of the artwork and how it interacts within the overall design.
We love when we are able to come into the process during the design phase-reviewing mood/design boards, and material samples. Hand-drawn sketches and digital mockups for custom commissions help us determine scale, layout, materials, and pricing.

There is nothing quite like the real thing-we know how much it helps to see and feel the work in person. We have found that, especially for large scale installation work, a client will feel more comfortable if they have been able to see and feel a sample themselves before moving forward. With that in mind, we often make material and/or color samples for client approval. Pantone colors, paint swatches, wallcoverings, fabric samples are all great reference points we are comfortable working with to create custom color palettes.
Once final approvals are in place and we have confirmed all the elements of the design and hammered out all site specifics, we happily get to work on the commission! Emily is hands-on in the studio everyday with Studio Artists Robin and Sam. Our 1400 sq ft space is filled with all sorts of works in progress and new ideas coming to life. Your works will get a dedicated spec sheet, planning document, and dates on our production schedule. Studio Manager Laura keeps everyone in the loop with updates from the studio and progress photos as needed. Each piece is inspected, detailed, and photographed each before it heads out the studio door. We help coordinate packing, shipping, and art installation upon request.
